Feasibility Study Cultural Landscape and Living Mountain World, Klimpfjäll 200 Years

Preparatory study in Klimpfjäll that maps natural values, cultural environments and development opportunities ahead of the village's 200th anniversary in 2031.

Purpose and goals

The purpose of the project is:

to preserve and develop Klimpfjäll's natural and cultural landscape by mapping values and needs around Norwayfarargården and the Wilderness Road.

The goal of the project is:

to finalize a final report that maps needs, opportunities, and efforts to develop Norwayfarargården and the landscape in Klimpfjäll.

About the project

In Klimpfjäll, a feasibility study is being conducted aimed at mapping conditions, needs, and development opportunities in the village ahead of the 200th anniversary in 2031. The focus is on preserving and developing natural and cultural values as well as strengthening the place's attractiveness for both residents and visitors.

The feasibility study includes an inventory of meadows and forest pastures to secure biodiversity and an open landscape along the Wilderness Road. At the same time, the need for sight clearing and measures against invasive species such as the flowering lupine is analyzed, with the aim of preserving the unique mountain landscape.

An important part of the work is Norwayfarargården – a municipal heritage building with great potential as a meeting place and tourist destination. Here, the condition of the buildings, development opportunities, and collaboration with heritage conservation actors are examined to strengthen the place's role in the village.

The project also includes the collection of stories, photographs, and historical documents to document Klimpfjäll's history and create a common vision for the anniversary year. Through dialogue meetings, inspiration evenings, and local collaboration, villagers have been engaged in the work.

The result will be a current situation analysis and a concrete plan for future development projects, including possible funding solutions – an important step to strengthen local development, cultural heritage, and sustainable rural areas in Klimpfjäll.

From the Project Application

”Our need is to create a common vision of a living mountain world based on the village's history, its unique buildings, and cultural landscape.”

LAG board's decision justification

The LAG board has decided to prioritize the application as the project addresses a
locally identified need to preserve and develop the cultural environment around
Norwayfarargården, open landscapes, and biodiversity. Through
inventories, dialogue, and the collection of local knowledge, conditions are created
for concrete future efforts with broad local anchoring.
