Leaders 2014-2022

During the program period 2014-2022, the association Leader Lappland 2020 has driven rural development through the leader method.

About Leader Lappland 2020

Leader Lappland 2020 was the non-profit association that granted development projects within our area (the municipalities; Arjeplog, Arvidsjaur, Dorotea, Lycksele, Storuman, Sorsele, Vilhelmina, and Åsele) during the program period 2014-2022.

The association's funding came from the EU, the state, municipalities, and regions.

Our vision

”Lappland 2020 is an international and attractive part of Europe where proud, competent, and engaged people and businesses want to live, work, and develop in close interaction with nature, culture, the non-profit sector, and modern technology.”

During the program period

Our projects

During this program period, we have approved no less than 57 projects which in various ways have supported our overall strategy. Some of these are still ongoing and continue to shape our future. These projects have been allocated development funds totaling nearly 40 million SEK.

In our project catalog, you will find all completed projects presented.

Conclusion, evaluation

and impact measurement

Leader Lappland 2020 commissioned WSP to conduct an impact measurement of projects carried out in the area during the program period in the summer of 2025. The overall purpose was to show whether, and if so, how, Leader has contributed to rural development.

Our development strategy

Three overarching goals:

  1. Promote the development of physical and social environments where people want to live and reside

3 Contribute to creating meeting places and forums for idea development and engagement
4 Contribute to preserving, making accessible, and spreading knowledge about local history and tradition

Attractive living environment
1 Contribute to creating physically attractive environments for residents and visitors
2 Contribute to creating accessible leisure
3 Contribute to better utilization and development of technology for rural development

Sustainable business development
1 Contribute to increasing the number of remote-independent workplaces and businesses
2 Contribute to increased diversification of the local labor market
3 Contribute to increasing diversity among entrepreneurs

Labor market and competence
1 Contribute to competence development among people to increase employability and competence in businesses
2 Contribute to more young people and foreign-born individuals entering the labor market
