GLOW – Sparsely built, Desire, Reciprocity, Participation
Through translations of sexual education materials into Southern and Ume Sami, lectures and workshops, and a regional SRHR network, GLÖD creates new conversations, meeting places, and safe spaces to promote equal health – regardless of language, identity, or geography.
Purpose and goals
The purpose of the project is:
to increase access to inclusive information about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in rural areas.
The goal of the project is:
to map relevant SRHR material and translate selected parts into South and Ume Sami as well as disseminate the material in printed and electronic format to reach young people, LGBTQI individuals, and Sami speakers in rural areas. Through the translated material, along with lectures and workshops, opportunities for discussions and meeting places around SRHR issues will be created. Furthermore, the goal is to establish an SRHR network to ensure long-term collaboration.
About the project
GLÖD is an initiative that aims to increase knowledge, safety, and inclusion regarding sexuality, consent, relationships, and LGBTQIA+ in the Leader Lapland area. The project is run by RFSU Umeå and is based on young people's right to equal health – regardless of where they live or what language they speak.
Through workshops, lectures, method development, and translations into South and Ume Sami, new opportunities for discussion, reflection, and learning within SRHR (sexual and reproductive health and rights) are created. The project targets both young people, the general public, and professionals – and particularly Sami-speaking target groups who currently have limited access to relevant information.
GLÖD is based on collaboration, participation, and local needs, and aims to contribute to strengthening long-term and safe knowledge work about sexuality and identity in the region.

LAG board's decision justification
The LAG board decided to prioritize the application as the GLÖD project highlights an urgent and often overlooked need for accessible information and safe conversations about sexual health in rural areas. By working with translation into Sami, norm-critical communication, and inclusive meetings, the project reaches target groups that often fall outside, such as young people, Sami speakers, and LGBTQI individuals. The board values that the project combines local anchoring with broad expertise among implementers, and that the efforts are clearly defined, relevant, and feasible within the project period. The project's networking component is also assessed to have the potential to create lasting structures that continue after the project's conclusion.
