The goal of the project is to create and place 10-12 wooden sculptures on the theme of Pride, as well as to create a documentary film.
About the project
The project aims to strengthen and highlight Pride in Västerbotten's inland and position Dorotea as a prominent municipality for wood art through an international wood art symposium. The project, called Utorpia 2024, includes youth and emphasizes the importance of acceptance for LGBTQIA+ individuals, addressing the often-excluding atmosphere in rural areas.
The wood carving symposium with the theme of Pride will be filmed and result in a documentary, contributing to placing Dorotea on the map as a hub for both art and openness. By bringing together Swedish and German youth in this cultural exchange, a more accepting and diverse environment is promoted.
The project also aims to reduce mental health issues and emigration among LGBTQIA+ individuals, show that the inland can be a place for everyone, and inspire youth in both wood art and the Pride movement, while creating international contacts and promoting Dorotea as a modern and welcoming municipality.
From the Project Application
”We want everyone to be able to be themselves and love whoever they want, even if they live in the inland.”
