After the Sámi house run by the Tärna Sámi Association disappeared in 2004, the need for a Sámi gathering place has gradually increased and become increasingly evident. This need has also grown in line with the increasing Sámi presence, both through more Sámi workplaces and because Storuman municipality is now also a Sámi administrative municipality. Furthermore, public interest in Sámi culture has increased.

Therefore, this project is part of a process that takes place in collaboration with Storuman municipality and the local community in Tärnaby, where the goal is to establish a Sámi center in Tärnaby. A preliminary study has already been conducted and shown that the potential for such a center is great and that much of what is needed is already in place; it is just a matter of coordinating, concentrating, and projecting. Additionally, upcoming collaborations have been identified.

The project involves producing informational materials and conducting an exhibition that will be the first step in creating a museum. The museum will focus on local Sámi history. The ultimate goal is to create, together with partners, a vibrant Sámi gathering and workplace, which is also an attractive destination with exhibitions, a café/restaurant, and a ”black box” that is the core content.
