Strömbom's garden – Dorotea's own Versailles
The project aims to revive Doctor Strömbom's garden, which once was Västerbotten's equivalent to Versailles. Through this initiative, they want to strengthen the appeal of Dorotea and create a natural meeting place for both residents and visitors.
Purpose and goals
The purpose of the project is to:
recreate parts of the historical and culturally valuable environment in Strömbom's garden.
The goal of the project is to:
create the conditions for a garden that can serve as a destination and a natural meeting place for both residents and tourists.
About the project
Doctor Strömbom, the doctor who created a beautiful garden that also benefited the public. Among other things, the garden offered a place for children to learn to swim in the moat and contained currant bushes that fulfilled the need for vitamin C.
In the 1960s, in connection with the construction of the new infirmary, large parts of the garden were destroyed, but the stone tower and its surroundings were preserved. The garden constitutes a fascinating and significant part of Dorotea's history and has both provided practical benefits and entertainment for the community.
Since the stone tower still stands, it is the project's intention to showcase part of what Doctor Strömbom once planted in his quest to create his own Versailles in Dorotea. This is a way to increase the attractiveness of Dorotea, create a common meeting place, and thus attract more visitors through the versatility of destinations. The project also identifies the need to offer Dorotea's residents a natural meeting place in the form of a garden. Flowers and nature itself contribute to an increased quality of life.
From the Project Application
”Strömbom's garden is an important historical environment and culturally valuable for Dorotea.".
Restoring part of the garden would contribute to increasing the well-being of those living here and at the same time make Dorotea an even more interesting and exciting destination for tourists.”
