The House of Berries from a cultural perspective, part 2
Berries have had great significance for people in the inland of Norrbotten and Västerbotten, but there is little information about this. We want to increase knowledge about berries as raw materials and their historical and cultural significance.
About the project
To increase knowledge about the historical and cultural significance of berries and promote the tourism industry in the region, we plan to create a new destination in the form of an exhibition at the House of Berries. The exhibition will show the connection between the historical significance of berries and their role in today's society, and will be linked to an interactive website where additional material can be presented and where visitors are given the opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge.
To produce material for the exhibition, we have conducted an inventory of the Agricultural Society's archives, the museums in the area's collections, material from local and village associations in the area, writings, films, photos, and similar that describe berry picking and berry processing, documents regarding berry picking, berry drying, and berry export, stories and memories of people in the community related to berries, and more. We have collaborated with several partners, including the Agricultural Society Norr & Västerbotten, the local heritage association in Glommersträsk, Gallijar-Järvlia Cultural Heritage Association, Norrbotten Museum, Silver Museum, Sara Lidman Society, Skellefteå Museum, Glommersträsk Hat Museum, Arvidsjaur Municipality, and Glommersbär, to collect relevant material and information.
From the Project Application
”With the interactive web that will be linked to the exhibition, the entire population of Sweden will also have access to the knowledge collected in the project.”
