Purpose and goals

The purpose of the project is:

to strengthen small-scale fishing in Rebackudden by investments in equipment and carrying out activities that increase knowledge about sustainable fishing and the role of fishing as a local resource.

The goal of the project is:

– To purchase and put into use freezing facilities, sustainable fishing nets and four-stroke engine.
– To carry out three knowledge-enhancing activities on sustainable fishing for children, the elderly and the general public

About the project

Rebackuddens Fjällfisk AB is running a project to develop small-scale and sustainable fishing in Arjeplog, focusing on local food production, cultural heritage, and collaboration in the community. Through investments in freezing facilities, sustainable fishing nets, and modern equipment, better conditions are created for processing and making locally produced fish accessible.

The project contributes to strengthening local food supply and shortening food chains, while also highlighting fishing as both an industry and cultural heritage. Rebackuddens Fjällfisk AB, a newly started company with roots in eight generations of professional fishing, combines traditional knowledge with modern working methods to create a long-term sustainable operation.

A central part of the project is collaboration with local actors such as schools, preschools, elderly care, and the Silver Museum. Through joint activities and learning efforts, knowledge about fishing, natural resources, and sustainable food production is passed on between generations. The project also creates opportunities for increased employment, strengthened entrepreneurship, and the development of Rebackudden as a future destination.

From the Project Application

”While fishing is an important cultural heritage, it also has the potential to contribute to the sustainable food production of the future,
local collaboration, and place development. By involving schools, preschools, elderly care, the Silver Museum, and other
local actors, we want to use fishing as a foundation for learning, community, and local pride.”

LAG board's decision justification

The LAG board decided to prioritize the application as the project contributes to
developing Rebackudden as an attractive and sustainable residential region by
strengthening small-scale fishing, increasing local food supply, and creating new
reasons to visit. The project has a clear local anchoring, collaborates with
several actors, and combines investments with educational activities around sustainable fishing and cultural heritage.
