Purpose and goals
The purpose of the project is to give young people in Norrbotten's inland municipalities the opportunity to strengthen their identity and understanding of societal structures as well as to highlight their stories and experiences.
The goal of the project is to conduct workshops and readings as well as to create a script for a finished play.
About the project
”Between the lines” is a community theater project that gives young people in Arjeplog, Arvidsjaur, and partly Piteå the opportunity to strengthen their identity and increase their understanding of how society works. Through creative processes, they get to explore their own stories and express them together with others.
The music theater drives the project with support from Leader Lappland 2030. It primarily targets Sámi youth, foreign-born individuals, and young people within the LGBTQI+ community. To create a safe and inclusive environment, discussion groups are combined with movement exercises, writing, and theater. Therefore, each meeting becomes a place where new perspectives can take shape.
During the course of the project, the youth participate in workshops and readings where their experiences are transformed into a joint script. In this way, the stories become a foundation for further work. The goal is to finalize a stage script and then conduct a reading as well as create a performance that tours northern Sweden. Additionally, parts of the material will be published digitally via the national platform CALS.
Overall, the project aims not only to make young voices visible but also to contribute to a greater sense of participation, cultural understanding, and hope for the future.

The LAG board decided to prioritize the application as the project clearly connects to our strategy. By engaging Sámi youth, foreign-born individuals, and young people who identify within the LGBTQI+ community, the project will use community theater to create a play. This promotes cultural diversity and inclusion. By processing the participants' stories into a dramatic form, the project supports collaboration and knowledge sharing within the cultural sector, which strengthens the local economy. Empowering and norm-critical activities increase voluntary engagement and contribute to a stronger community and sustainable social development in rural areas.
