Tomorrow's Sports Ground
The project "Tomorrow's sports ground" is transforming Lappvallen in Åsele into a modern meeting place for exercise and activities all year round.
Purpose and goals
The purpose of the project is to:
create a natural meeting place with a focus on movement and the joy of movement. The goal of the project is to:
enable the establishment of new sports by installing a tennis court, a local sports field/multi-arena, a motor skills/strength track and running tracks with a long jump pit.
About the project
The sports ground in Åsele was planned about 60-70 years ago and has been an important resource for the association, village and countryside. However, the facility no longer has the ability to meet today's needs and changes. Social development has created new behaviors and demands from practitioners, which has led to a sports ground being designed in completely new ways compared to before. Unfortunately, there is also a trend that sedentary lifestyle, loneliness and mental illness are increasing in Åsele, something we wish to address.
We have been inspired by and learned from several projects, including Bredsand in Sundsvall and Aktivitetspark Svartbäcksmåla. We have adapted and implemented the best of these experiences to suit our local conditions – a process that involved direct contacts, suppliers, drawing studies and online research. The feasibility study ”Västerbotten inland artificial turf fields”, funded by Leader Lappland, has also been an important starting point. The winds of change are blowing stronger and stronger, and we strive to redesign the sports field to meet the challenges and needs of the future.

From the Project Application
”"This will be a place where EVERYONE can be. The facility is designed to capture changing needs according to age but also according to our diverse nature."”

LAG board's decision justification
The LAG board decided to prioritize the application as the project will convert an ordinary sports field into a modern center for exercise and meetings all year round. They will create the opportunity to establish new sports and sports forms to strengthen public health, include more target groups in the association and extend the season.
