Meeting place Flottarleden

The project aims to build a meeting place/experience trail, made by youth for children, young people, and adults. The theme of the meeting place is the floating trail.

About the project

The outdoor area Gammplatsen in Lycksele serves as an engaging arena for children and young people. The main goal for the Lycksele local heritage society, together with the other actors at Gammplatsen – the Forest and Sami Museum in Lycksele and the Lycksele Sami Association – is to convey and spread the rich cultural heritage that has a deep connection to Lycksele.

The project strives to meet the needs of children and young people to understand how previous generations worked to build Sweden's modern prosperity. By engaging different senses, we want to satisfy various individuals' desire to understand the history of floating. Through physical activities, such as navigating through a timber jam or balancing on a log, one can experience history in a more vivid way. Touching the wood and working with the water provides an enhanced experience. All of this is combined with informative signs that give insight into how floating looked historically.

From the Project Application

”The purpose of the project is also for students from the upper secondary special school at Tannbergsskolan to carry out the project together with their teachers. To develop models of what the stations look like, build the different stations, and to establish the stations on site at Gammplatsen.”
