ROOM Orchestra Camp

The project will establish a symphony orchestra camp in Lycksele for youth from the entire county with the goal of raising the level, broadening participation, and creating a fun experience. The camp aims to strengthen the musical growth for string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Initially, they expect around 60 participants, with the possibility of expanding in the future. The camp will involve a large number of children and youth in the region, giving them the opportunity to play together, create belonging, and increase creativity.

This type of camp does not exist in the region, making it extremely important for the region's cultural future. RUM, the national association of young musicians, supports this initiative, and youth will influence the planning of the camp.

The orchestra camp will strengthen and develop Västerbotten's district work with culture and youth, as well as increase engagement in community life and civil society. The inland has few youth who get the opportunity to play in a symphony orchestra due to cuts in music and culture schools. A music camp is therefore of great importance for musical development and meeting like-minded individuals.

There is a national need to recruit instrumentalists and instrumental teachers, and a camp can help attract and retain talent in the region. The music tradition in Västerbotten is strong, but to preserve it, both teachers and young musicians must be inspired and given opportunities to grow. Making music together provides lifelong joy and quality of life, even for those who do not become professional musicians.
