Top of Arjeplog

– a collaboration project about hiking with a focus on sustainability

Top of Arjeplog is a collaboration project for hiking. The goal is to try to shape a platform based on Arjeplog's vast forest and mountain landscape, inviting people from the municipality and nearby areas such as Sorsele and Arvidsjaur.

About the project

The project aims to include everyone, with a particular focus on youth. It is a local development group where non-profit and public sectors collaborate with private actors to develop a local strategy. ”Top of Arjeplog – a collaboration project about hiking with sustainability in focus” is an application from ABF Norr Arjeplog, Arjeplog Municipality, Argentis AB, and Midsummer / Top of Arjeplog. The project idea is based on a folk education perspective with a focus on ecotourism, where nature is utilized without being harmed. The goal is for more people to enjoy ”free hiking” in harmony with the interests and well-being of the local population. The project takes place in a Sámi cultural landscape where attention and consideration are important.

The project will use digital information forms to reach out to more, and all parties will contribute to this platform. By hiking alone or offering hiking, the countryside can develop positively. This can lead to improved local knowledge, the establishment of new networks, and gaining new knowledge about the area, which can strengthen sustainability in the long term. Additionally, hiking can create community among people of different ages and cultures and provide a sense of pride in the area. Although better health is a possible benefit, it is not the primary goal of the project.

From the Project Application

”Presence in nature should be in harmony with the interests and
well-being of the local population”

Purpose and goals

The purpose of the project is to:
broaden knowledge and interest in mountain nature, knowledge about the right of public access, and increase interest and inspiration to independently utilize the mountain world.

The goal of the project is to:
have conducted various types of hikes both in daylight and in darkness, and that influencers should promote the hikes and the destination. The project will also spread knowledge about the right of public access and information on how to act in the mountain world.
